Shaky steering from the idiots at discount tire.

So I took my car in to get the two front tires balance at the place where I bought my wheels. They did it, for free, no problems. Took awhile for just a tire balancing but whatever, I was feeling shitty and had nothing planned for the day (Fuck ya summer). So anyways I get out on the road and this shaking starts to happen at 45mph. I'm thinking "hmm what did they fuck up, this wasn't here before". So I call them back and explain the problem and they then try to tell me that it's my front tires from having so much negative camber. I'm like whatever ok just make it go away. So I put on new front tires and align it and still shaking from the steering wheel. Needless to say I am not happy. When I saw them putting the tires on the balancing machine, should the monitor read 0 on top and 25 in green on the bottom? I have not a clue what they did to fuck up my car as it wasn't like this when I brought it to them!

after the tires are balanced it should say 0 - 0. meaning it takes no additional weight to balance the tires. either way if it wasnt like this when you brought it to them their either didnt balance your wheels correctly or took your car for a joy ride and fucked something up

Ya they pretty much stopped the machine in front of my eyes and took the wheel off with 0 - 25. While talking to me saying i need new tires and a camber kit.

i think 25 is only a quarter of a gram, which is within tolerance. you won't ever notice .25 gram in feedback to the steering wheel.

I think anything under .5 is OK, but I'm not certain.

Are your tie rods in good shape?

Not necessarily, they may have done nothing wrong. If the tires were cupped really badly from camber or worn a certain way, it can damp the vibrations to the steering wheel, but when you're riding on new tires, with a lot of neg camber, you're essentially riding on a very thin edge, which allows the tires to "shake" more easily.

Those "idiots" at Discount Tire may have done a perfect job. My guess is that your car just sucks, man.

I don't know to be honest. I'm going to sears quick to have them check my tire balance to see if these fools did it right. When it's up on a lift i'll check the tie-rods and get back to this thread. If it is the tie-rods, what would cause them to act up like this after I balance my wheels? My steering was pretty undisturbed b4 this...
thanks for the quick responses you guys.

See my post above for explanation as to why this could happen. It could be any of the suspension geometry though. Ball joints, control arm rear bushings, wheel bearings.

Cool. I figured It might be wheel bearings or tie rods. My ball joints were replaced last year with the control arms and control arm bushings.

and your right my car does suck :)

the measurment is actually in ounces. And now you shouldnt really feel .25 ounces but that shouldnt be ruled out. DId you only see them take one tire off? They could have balanced out the other tire even worse.

Also, what kind of weights did they use? sticky weights or cip weights?

There is a small possibility that if they used sticky weights, that they didnt clean the wheel well enough and the weight fell off.
