Factory Spring ??

Does anyone know what the different color marks on the factory springs represent?

For example I have a set of Factory BMW springs and on one side of the spring there is a green spot on each coil, while the springs that are on the car have a white spot on each coil.

Does this represent different spring rates? Model designations(i, is, m3,..?)

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

318is springs - Blue stripe on front and rear springs
E30 M3 springs - Green stripe on front springs, White stripe on rear springs

Those are the only stock springs I've had. Maybe others can add to the list.
