Those who have GC coil over setup.......

newbie here but have a history w/BMW's and track days. THIS SITE IS GREAT,.................. I have spoken to GC and Jay thinks it is wise to cut strut housings to shorten and to cut off oe spring perches and install GC perch. These mods allow full range of lowering and full shock travel to prevent bottoming. I am wondering who did install w/o these mods and what your thoughts are....do you bottom out ?..do you track car?...what is your ride ht?..what kind of camber do you run up front?... .....I really rather do install w/ o cutting if poss.......TIA!

I had it set up like that for a few weeks with my first GC setup. It only prevents you from going down the last 3/4" or so. If you get camber plates (to lower stack height) then you really will not have a problem

      GC set up

..thanks, I had noticed your older posts.......so you ran w/o either mod? so that was the only draw back..the last 3/4"?......did you imply you eventually made mods on a diff GC set up?....thanks, it is often hard to get info......!

eventually I did what Jay said to do, but now I have GCs on my 5 lug (e36) suspension and I have the perches cut off for ease of adjustability.
I think the only other drawback other than the last 3/4" is that it's more difficult to adjust.. but that's not saying much, it'll add maybe a minute or two to the adjustment process max

I had my stock perches cut off and the GC ones welded, but IIRC the housings weren't intentionally shortened. I run 300lb/in springs up there and at the height in my sig I had bottoming out issues. I now have it raised about 1-1.25" and it's no longer a problem.
