Power steering out with no warning

The pump never made any noise - no leaks, belt tension is fine, power steering pully is running. Fluid is a little brown. I had the car up on jackstands to bolt on the front swaybar, and when I started it to back out of the garage, I had no PS. It's an S52 swapped car with a 2.7 Z3 rack, so steering without PS is a BITCH.

    Any ideas?

If I were you I would bleed out the powersteering fluid and see if that helps.

I'm turning the wheel lock to lock with the return hose removed, and no the fluid level in the container is staying static. What's wrong?
