Steering wheel sticking in one place intermittently..

Problem was there a while ago and went away for a bit, but after today it has come back. I'll put on a bit of lock and expect it to self centre but it just stays in that spot. Doesnt happen every time I turn the wheel but often enough for me to get annoyed with it :hitler:

    Ideas? Maybe P/S pump?

Hmm - don't know what you are describing. Are you moving when this happens. a better description would help.

Yes, as I'm driving a long, I'll turn the wheel 360 degrees to turn a corner and it will stay in that position and not self centre. It will only go straight again if I move it forcefully (takes a bit of heft)

My WRX was doing this, it was the universal joint in the steering linkage.

Did you do the front suspension recently? I had a car do that when I forgot a washer between the strut mount and the upper perch. Had to tear it all down and do it again. Might also be the bearings in the upper strut mount too, especially if it's intermittent.

my bet is the sterring coupler, check to see it is still intact and if it is binding, other than that check all your pivot points like control arm, tie rod and upper perches. It will only be those things.
