the only think holding you back would be the steering knuckle... If you can implement the modifications that it takes to put an e36 rack into an e30, but reverse engineer it i guess... you'd be fine. I dont think it'd be too hard, probably just grinding away at the joints and maybe lengthening it?

Edit: you might just try it with a normal e30 rack if you have an e36 thats just sitting around. I bet you might be able to just use the modified knuckle for both cars. If you or anybody wants info on how to modify the knuckle i'll give you the part numbers and a guide to do it the way zionsville does it.
