Suspension Quest...sort of like the Holy Grail

In my quest to have a firm but compliant ride I have ditched the Billie Sport and H&R Sport springs. Temporary suspension will be (please hold the laughter and snide comments) KYB front struts with M3 springs, supplemented with a 30 lbs spring cushion, with a no name rear shock and M3 springs.

I don't have enough coin to get the complete GC coil over package for a couple of months so this will have to do.

For $250 I think it will be a good stop gap measure...

I'll have it on the car later this week, will report on ride etc in case anyone wants to duplicate.

With the added power and weight of the s52, your car will handle like shit.

When I had eibachs, billy sports, and 22/19 sways, my car didn't handle all too well with the nose heavy nature of the 24v swap. Coil-overs helped a lot, but it took a bit of experimentation with spring rates to get the car handling as well as it does now.

I'd say the H&R sports and billys will be a better choice than the m3 springs and KYBs. You're downgrading IMO. The H&Rs are decently stiffer than m3 springs, and will give you a lower center of gravity to increase handling. Bilsteins are much better than KYBs as well.

What about keeping the bilsteins and doing a coilover conversion? not a whole lot of cash. KYBs are a downgrade like Chris said

This is now the 8th thread about your "quest" for a good suspension setup, quit buying shit and save for the proper suspension that suits your needs. I can only wait for the day you post up that you finally bought some GC coilovers and then got the wrong spring rate and you again complain that the ride is too soft or it is so firm that you don't float over potholes like you are driving on clouds.

Sorry to be posting looking for information that would lead to a solution to my situation. I probably shouldn't have started so many threads about it.

The goal is to find a setup that will satisfy my desire to have a ride similar to the original suspension on the car but be somewhat driver school worthy.

I spent a lot of money on this car in the past 3 years and plan on keeping it for a long time, so finding the right combination is important to me.

It's interesting to note that when I first started asking about the setups that everyone always gave the same approximate answer; Billie sports and H&R Sports, when in fact that choice has been shown to be inadequate for the 24v swap due to the added weight. Riding on the bumpstops isn't really a suspension.

The GC Koni SA combo now appears to be the really only way to get to the ride/handling I'm looking for; however with a price on the up side of $1600, I can't afford that in 1 bite. I'm having to save up some coin and sell off the Bilsteins and H&R combo to get there.

Using the inexpensive KYB's with M3 springs will at least afford me the pleasure of driving the car for a couple of months, even if it doesn't handle as well, it will at least be tolerable over the short term. It was either this or park the car until I had the GC kit on there, I just didn't like driving the car and feeling the harsh ride.
