    E30 inserts in E36-M housings....insert depth

Ja ja ja....I know it's probably been covered before, I had threads about it marked on my other computer but it has shit the bed. I was looking on Blunttech and saw the Bilstein set for E30, an excellent price compared to that in Germany. I am going 5-lug and want to use the E30 inserts in the E36M hosuings. I will be lowering the car about 60mm, most likely with KW's. IIRC, they are shorter than the E36 inserts that are available so a spacer, as well as some cutting/welding will be necessary for install. My question is how deep to set them/how tall to make the spacer. Since i'm lowering it said amount, then I would want to make the insert lower in the housing as not to take so much travel away at it's static height....right?? Thanks...

no, e36 tube is an inch shorter than standard e30 insert. Adding an inch up top will take an inch from shock travel.

get a set of iX Bilsteins and get to cutting for coilovers...

Thanks dude...I thought there was some reason I would have an issue using standard E30 billys. And I can't do Coilovers for several reasons. One being TUV, and another being $$$. The billys in the housings are invisible, or at least the part # is to identify it as an iX piece(they're very picky). I will just show them the TUV Gutachten(cert.) saying that they are correct for he car.

Sorry to bump this thread back up; but....

Would one just be able to use the e36 insert in lieu of the e30? The top hats should transfer over no?

Or... if using a Koni insert alternative, there shouldn't be any worry to shock height after gutting the e36 tubes?

There is no E36 Billy insert, it is a complete unit/housing. But the Koni is def. doable, $$ was the issue. If it wasn't, I'd be using E30 M3 parts for my 5-lug.
