Adjustable m3 front sway links problem

As many of you know, I'm putting together the car with parts I've amassed over several years, so half the time I'm staring at a part I purchased in 2005 and don't even know what it's for.

These are m3 links that I bought of someone from the board. I bought a whole set including adjustable rears, and I believe he made them himself. Don't remember the members name (rs4pro3 maybe?), and I can't find the original thread.

Here's how the geometry should look (stu's car I think)

Here's what mine look like unloaded at the shortest I can make them. Notice I welded my tabs as high as possible and they still seem too long. So long in fact I had to jack up the spindle just to mount them, and once unloaded it pushes the sway all the way down into the control arm.

I think I need to shorten them.

is that 6 sided middle piece threaded the whole length? just trim it a bit if thats the case.

no, it's not threaded its entire length as the threading is reversed on one end.

rs4pro3 told me they were fine as long as the geometry was right under load. What bothered me though is that they were fine under load but were bottomed out and didn't have any adjustability. That was the whole point of paying for adj links.

There was an extra inch of threading on each side though, so I hacksaw'd off 1/2" on either end. Probably could have done more, but they were pre-scored 1/2" and I wanted it to be equal.

Pics when I get around to putting them back on.
