    bilstein shock going out?

ok, i searched and could not find anything reguarding this. so here i am..

i semi-harsh noise is coming from somewhere around my driver strut area..

when car is stopped, i can push down and hear it, then start pushing down (and up) faster and the faster it goes, it starts to fader away... i figure this must be shock?

there were bilstein sports pre-installed on the car when i bought it,,,

and IF it is the shock what other symtoms are there, and don;t they have a lifetime warrenty? (and can i use that even know i did not buy the shocks.? ) thnks

i dont think you can claim warranty as you probably do not have a proof of purchase, and you're not the first owner.

They do have a lifetime warranty. I'm not sure what it covers and if it is transferrable but it is very reare for them to go out at all. Sorry I can't be of more help.

        from Bilstein website

ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America warrants its gas pressure shock absorbers against defects in workmanship and materials for as long as you, the original purchaser, own your car.

            what kind of springs?

Just a piece of anectode - when I had severely worn shocks, I could only feel it, not hear it.

stock springs, my girlfriend is getting me some eibach pro-line ( i think its those, the 1.3 drop ones) for valintines Day (what a g/f)

but i am running stock springs now, i work at a bmw dealership, and lifted it up, and got a mechanic friend of mine to look at it, we jiggled all suspension componets, and nothing is lose, all stiff. he suggested I would need a new steering rack.. although my steering rack does leak a little, it does not make the sound when i steer, only when i hit a bump, or something.

well then the bodyroll issue is solved, it's very likely that it is simple because you are running stock springs.

If you think that the noise is because of the shocks, check that it's not leaking, do the bounce test....,but if you work at a BMW dealership, and have a mech friend, why don't you get him to check it out for you?

he was in a rush when looking at it, he seems to think tis' the steering rack, just wanted to second the opinons with ya'll..

could a bad (going bad) steering rack make noise like that?

and as far as body roll goes, think after i get the eibach sports, thatll help it abit?

i guess if it was the steering it would make since (flash back) couple night ago, my girlfriend and I were *cough* "driving" some country roads in monroe NC, (no people.. no cops) we were going relativly fast and going rounds lots of turns, i about lots it around one turn, because it felt like the steering was off balance (i turn wheel 90 degrees right, tires turn so far, turn wheel 9- degrees left, tires don;t turn as far as they did when i turn right.. does that make since? does this sound like steering rack or is it imagination?
