    Strut bar removal

    Hey Guys,

I have the ol 30 on jackstands for bodywork. I'm in the process of pulling apart the engine bay to paint it as well as do some engine work.

Question: The jackstands are on the frame rails, I want to remove the strut bar which means unbolting the shock mounts from the strut towers. Can I do it with the car jacked, or do I have to lower it or jack up the suspension?

The car has lowering springs, worried about the struts slipping out.

I know its a pretty basic question, but its been awhile since I've changed a strut and never on a e30.

You can put something under the strut, tire, control arm, or tie rod.

either that or just take two of the three nuts off and when youre on the third one, begin to hold the strut up til its all the way off then slip the strut bar out and put the nut back on. I did this last night, I know it works.

I take it you have a one piece bar? A three piece bar makes life tons easier.
