Some report a 'juttering' or whatever felt through the steering wheel when going over bumps - and that it's resolved by tightening the collar nut on the steering colum. (in cabin. under dash.)

Since you don't want to put crazy torque on the steering wheel lock - the trick (i guess) is to get a wrench on nut with the other end of wrench propped against floor - then use the steering wheel to tighten.

Not sure if this applies to early models.

      lol @ gg comment.

The juttering in my wheel that I had in my IX was solved with M3 offset CABs.

You'll have to jack up the front and put the car on jackstands on the framerails just aft of the CAB mount bolts then, grab the wheels and shake them in the 12 to 6 direction and the 9 to 3 position to check the C/A ball joints and the CAB inserts for wear and play. Just remember, the BMW suspension should be tight and movement free, any play is greatly amplified when at speed.
