Noob Needs Help with GC/Bilstein install

    Hello r3v,

I am currently in the process of installing my GC/Bilsteins on my 91 318i.

Everything came out just fine, but reassembling everything has proved to be a little more problematic. I am having a hard time installing the new front shocks/springs right now.

When taking out the old stock shocks, there was a gold-threaded collar that helped hold the old shock in place. I'm assuming this piece (pictured below) isn't needed because it doesn't really fit over the Bilstein shock, but what holds the shock in place while driving? Will the tension in the springs and the weight of the car alone hold it in place?

If somebody could either help me in this thread, or send me some contact info to help me in person, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I don't see any pic, but if you went from non-billstein to bilstein you need a specific glan nut for the Billys.

If you bought your Billys new, they should have come with new nuts.

Thanks for the help. I bought them used, so I don't have those. Are they sold individually? Do I need one for each corner?

You can get them directly from Bilstein, or throw a want add up here and on Bimmerforums.

        Check EBAY too.

You only need them for the front as the rears are "shocks"
