I will say I didn't try this and that could very well work. Due to the fact that the bushings need to be in the car with the car sitting on the ground in about ~30 minutes (IIRC) then I didn't want to chance the first one going on, then next one not going as smoothly and dragging out the timeline.

I've done it twice with just a vice to hold the CA in place while i pushed the CAB on with some grease and my bare hands. Once with stock CABs, once with M3 offset.

I think some bushings are just slightly different sizes. I had a guy who is pretty damn strong try with mine and there was no way it was happening.

lol, I knew someone was gonna say that when I looked at the pic and how it was aimed.

But rest assured, it's on jackstands, you just can't see them in the pic. Jack was just there for an extra safety net since I was pushing and pulling on the car alot, and I had to move the stands back slightly on the rails to get some room to work. ;)

well, in the interest of putting more information out there, here's a pic of my "special tool" that I made out of stuff sitting around the garage to pull the M3 offset bushings on. A bit cumbersome, but it worked pretty easily......

parts: some threaded rod, some nuts and washers, a drilled out "L" bracket, and......a hub from a 1970 Triumph GT6, that happened to have a perfect inner diameter for pressing the bushing/lollipop on - and of course already has a really strong/stiff flange with perfectly spaced holes in it :)

EDIT NOTE: The car is on jackstands (just out of the picture), the jack in the photo is just there as an extra "safety net" :)

do the cabs NEED to be replaced? my solid m3 ones that came with the car look fine... or is because they get destroyed when the control arm is taken out?

Are we talking about putting the bushing into the lollipop or putting the control arm into the bushing?

Bushing into the lollipop needs a press or careful hammering. Control arm into bushing requires some force too, but could be done by hand.

It would have taken a very strong person.

I was sliding m3 solid offset bushing onto the CA. It was already in the lollipop.

Here is a diagram of the contraption I made:



Just play around with it until you find something that works. I got lucky and returned the eyelet bolts, in total a 6 dollar tool that saved me a lot of time. (after I'd already wasted a few hours)
