Question about H&R rear spring height adjusters

    What I'm planning to do:
I have an e36m3 front 5-lug and a Ti rear ready to go in the car. The front struts are TC Kline dual adjustable Koni, threaded shock bodies. I need to get front springs (6"?) and want to set the car up for a decent Daily/AutoX. Rates i'm exploring are 450# fronts and possibly 650# rears. I need to figure out what to do about the rear rates as currently, i do not have adjustable perches.

I cannot get a set of rear adjusters from ground control because they are not allowed to split a kit, but Turner has some H&R rear height adjusters for $160. They are for use with 60mm I.D. springs and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these? It doesn't look like there is a locking mechanism or anything. And i'm more curious about spring choice/stiffer availability and whether or not the 6" springs were too long. Are you able to use the "non-barreled" springs on the E30 without coil binding issues?

Springs cost about 60 each and my dilemma is, do i just try to piece these things together and wait...wait...wait... until used springs become available. Or do i just bite the bullet, spend on credit, and order the FULL ground-control kit, only to have front perches kicking around which may not sell for much to recoup any cost.

Anyone have any rears kicking around? Why is there not a springswap thread yet?

The H&R rear perch is junk. Get the TC Kline or Vorshlag adjusters.

Although, if you get the GC kit, I would be interested in buying the front perches off of you. PM me if you decide to do that.

I was just checking out the Vorschlag; didn't know if it too locked via hex bolt or what. If it's $180 for the pirch and $240 for a set of springs, then it's almost in the ball-park for a set of ground controls.

Any idea if running a standard non-barreled ERS on the rear will have any issues with binding? It would be nice for the sake of spring swaps/trades to be able to run any type of short 2.25/2.5 rear springs.

I'll send you a PM in a bit to discuss spring perch costs and what it's worth to both you and I.

Straight springs in the rear work best if you're running, healthy rates. On my (fat pig) E46 M3, I get coil binding in the rear running less than 600lbs without using one of the special springs.

So running say 450/650 on an e30 shouldn't pose a problem?

also what length would you use for front/rear? 6"/5", 5"/5" or any other?

Car currently has some H&R Sport springs for 318i; so it's hard to gauge what is needed without an example in front of me.

I'd probably go with ~6" up front.

As far as the back goes, honestly, it's been like 5 or 6 years since I installed coilovers on an E30, so I can't recall the correct length for the back. I'd guess 5, but GC should be able to tell you on that one.

Typically you have 5" or 5.5" and 2.25" dia in the rear with adjusters and you can go 6" without. IE has some spring pads for 2.25 or 2.5 if you go with no adjuster.
