E30M3 5 lug on 89 cab, which shox/struts?

I am finally installing my e30m3 5 lug and need to buy shocks and struts.

My question is, should I buy e30M3 Shocks/Struts or E30 Cab shocks and struts?

I am thinking of buying the Koni's that are on sale and they said that the e30m3's are gas and the 325ic are hydraulic, and they said I should decide which I want and shouldn't mix them....

They are physically the same. Aren't they? Gas or simple hydraulic is two different technologies, but the two inserts/shocks should be interchangeable. Only the early 1984-85 318i was smaller in diameter.
