New strut bearings/mounts , do they need grease?

I read a thread over on e30tech where someone mentioned greasing the bearings in the strut mount/bearing before installing them. I have never heard of this before but it seems plausible since it is not a sealed bearing (you can see the ball bearings).

    What do you think?

I'm the type of guy that'll smear grease all over shit just because it displaces water and lubricates what it's on. The down-side is that the coating of grease will accumulate grime/particles over time.

When in doubt, I grease it. Feels like it'll do more good/prevention than harm - but that's just me.

I don't grease them. I think I may have on one or two installs in the past. Like Simon said (lol) but opposite, I worry a little about dirt sticking to the grease and doing more harm than good. Mine look fine now after a few years of no grease. I might hit em with some spray grease occasionally. To each their own...

after 20 years of grease, they did not wear out from grime. Just had them in my hand today. I packed new grease and called her a day.
