Should I even bother upgrading sway bars?

Everyone loves the feel of a car with stiff swaybars that handles flat, but flat does not necessarily mean good handling. I am happy with the balance and handling characteristics my car has right now.
I am not planning on using the car as a dedicated track machine, but if I can spend $400 and further improve my handling then I am all about that.
Would upgraded sway bars improve my handling or would they just allow the cars balance and behavior to be adjusted?

Currently running H&R sport + Jessica Bielstein sports.

Sorry for asking a very elementary question, but I tend to believe (like in another active thread) that a lot of people confuse flat cornering with good handling.

E30 sway bars are very soft, anyway. A 22/19 setup won't get the car close to cornering flat.

Yes, sways will improve handling. Note that stiffer may not work out if you run crap tires. On my Dunlop Star Specs, 22/19+375/400 (way, way, way better than the H&R Sports I just got rid of)+Bilsteins is a super soft suspension.

Try a vert front sway. You'll be very happy with that on a commuter. Thick rear sway is not that great. Especially without an LSD.
