Steering return Question. Toe in specs included

    Hey Everyone,
So I bought my first E30 a few weeks ago. I'm now working on the steering return problem. I've done some research and want to narrow it down.

    Symptoms/stuff:
    • Power Steering is light and feels like a normal car
    • Returns nearly to center, only 90-45 degrees from center
    • PO had it aligned. total toe .32 degrees (.16 on each side)
    • PO replaced control arms/struts before alignment

From my research Ive found possible causes are:

Toe in incorrect- Please look at toe specs and tell me if they would be the cause.

Washers between strut and hat missing- Can someone give me instructions for checking this?

Steering rack is shot- Again, instructions on how to test for this? Drive w/o belt??

Steering rack u-joint is toast - how to test?

    Thanks in advance, Jeff

I'm confused on your problem. Does the car pull left or right? Or does the steering simply not return to center?
