    powersteering question

my powersteering went out last night, and i now hear a clicking noise as i turn the wheel, and definitely much harder to steer. i have a 91 318i and its my first M42. could it just need fluid? belt? is there a powersteering reservoir? i cant find it for the life of me. any input is appreciated! thanks

yea, possably. But whatever you do, keep asking questons here instead of looking under the hood of your own car

look at the belt. If it is there and not frayed, it's fine for now. The pump could be shot if the fluid is really really old or maybe just some fluke thing. I can't explain the clicking without more info, but collapsed upper strut bearings can do that and make the steering stiff.

Does it "whine" when you turn the wheel? Have you looked to be sure that the belt is there and on the pulley properly?

Like other suggested check your drive belt for the power steering pump is in good condition. If the clicking nose gets faster when you accelerate, check you guibo, a rubber damper at the rear of your transmission and on the front of your drive-shaft.

Thanks for all the input you have all been very helpful. There is no whining noise just a lot of clicking while steering.
