Ran into a little problem with g/c coils

alright so, tonight i was mocking up my coilovers to see if i need to cut any of the strut housing out and i ran into a little problem. From what i understand the threaded collar is suppose to go over the strut body and stay there once you tighten the allen wrench. My problem was that the collar wasn't going over the nut that holds the strut in.

I'm running tokico blues with supplied retainer nuts to hold the strut in the body.

I took a pic of a basic setup with all the components there.

    stock fitment

    Just a little overhang

What i'm i doing wrong? how to fix this? maybe i'm just too tired from working all day and should worry about this tomorrow.

did GC say that setup would work? i think they are designed to be used with Koni.

You need to weld on your perch first.
Then put the threaded sleeve and adjuster on it.
        Then put the shock in.

If they came with instructions you should read them because you have it all wrong.

I know all that, the nut that holds the shock down is the issue, the threaded sleeve has to be under it and it leave the gap between the spring and the perch that g/c supplies

yes, but the top of the sleeve hits the bottom of the nut and creates a gap between the strut mount and the spring perch that g/c sends you.

I may not be expressing my self right

i think i got it figured out, since the top of the sleeve hits that nut, i'm gonna weld the d collar just right so that went the shock is tightened down it'll hold the threaded sleve in place. Or at least that's the plan, we'lls ee how it goes. Thanks

Call me, you can't do it that way. The GC kit must be installed and welded with no strut insert in the housing, therefore no gland nut would be in the way. (that big nut at the top of the strut housing is called the gland nut)

The reason you need to weld the ring exactly where the directions say, is that allows for future modifications. If you weld it as you have described, you will be backed into a corner, and may have to redo things in the future.

It is easier than it looks. call me at 530 677 8600

                        Thanks again Jay!
