Leaking rack, Clunk/Groan on turn at low speed

Finally got into another e30 and I've got two problems applicable to this forum...

    1) It clunks/groans when turning at low speeds. Doesn't do it all the time, but often. Noise comes from the rear and I haven't been able to diagnose it yet.

    2) My steering rack is leaking from the passenger side somewhere, it looks to be coming directly out of the boot. It turns well, it doesn't make noise, but it pisses fluid. Can I rebuild the rack? Replace the seal? Could I use some lucas Stop Leak? I used it in my other 318i but the leak was not this significant.

    EDIT:

Do the racks from early model e30's fit late model e30's?
