ran into a problem that im not quite sure of

over the weekend i got my e30 insured/registered to drive on the road after waiting a month of paper work. my dad was the last one to drive it about a month ago, drove to the gas station and back and the car made no weird noises and ran great. BTW, its a bone stock 318is
once the car was road legal, i drove over to the car, switched the stock basketweaves back on, started driving it on the street and it starting making which almost sounds like a thumping noise/ or more like something was hitting in the rear, like a clunk. at slow speeds it made the hitting noise slow, as i go faster, same thing, it got faster. it was so loud my dad followed and could hear it about 300ft away.
i got the car up on jacks in the rear, looked for anything obvious, took both wheels off, started the car and ran through 1st 2nd and 3rd... NO noise what so ever. nothing hitting, no clunk noise, nothing... apparently it only makes the noise under load.
so my question is? is this symptoms of a bad cv joint? im sure the wheel bearing isnt bad.. it would have made noise spinning without the wheels on. any ideas? any info would help a lot

Could be your center support bearing. If you can get it on a lift try to push and pull on the driveshaft.

its not driveshaft speed related. its wheel speed related.but i had that problem on my 325 last week, so i know its not the center support bearing...

i ran the weaves on my 325, no vibrations at all. im almost thinking replacing the whole left rear axle since thats where the noise is coming from

Swap the wheels front/rear before you do anything else.
