    Strut inserts

Am i a F'n dumbass? how do i remove the strut "inserts." I have the strut tubes out that attach to the front spindles and such and took off all the top hardware and pull this little plastic "cap" off and see that there are 4 bends in the metal that would hold an "insert" in maybe, but i've never heard of people having to un-bend things to get the inserts out.. These are E36 M3 struts for a 5 lug conversion, so maybe this post should go in that section, but what's my deal?

    Unbend and voila?

dont unbend for crissake cause that whole thing is gas pressurized!?

    can post pics if needed.
