    Strut Collar Removal

Best practices for removing the strut collar? Put a pipe wrench on it and hit senseless with a hammer and not budging...hit it with some penetrating oil and let sit...repeat senseless hammering.

    Any advice is appreciated.

Intense heat, like from an oxycetylene torch, applied to the threads will get the collar out.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

is your tie rod off? I rotated my spindle until it was braced on the control arm, had a friend hold the shock, and pipe wrenched like woah.

Let it cool after using the torch. let the heat break the bond of the rust, and then use the wrench. And if you have Bilsteins, do not use the torch, and use it carefully with any gas shock.

If you have new collar nuts to put on afterwards then you can lay the assy down and use a large screwdriver and a hammer to pound a notch in the side (CCW) and it should unscrew. Always worked well for me.
