The previous owner of my E30 didn't put power steering fluid in the E30 and drove it around for a month and a half with no fluid. So as you might suspect, steering is quite um.. annoying. I can put the fluid back and it'll be back to normal right?...right?

If the system doesn't have fluid in it you can bet on there being a leak. If you are exceptionally luck the leak will be just from a hose, but the odds are that the leak is from the rack and replacement is required. And since the pump has been run dry for quite a while you'll probably have to replace it also. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

yep I finally put fluid in there. Worked for a little bit. Then it started making a really annoying sound, followed by leaking. hopefully the sounds stops.
I'm ok with not having power steering, but I'd be happier if I had it. But I'm not going to pay big bucks to fix it, Unless there is a cheaper solution than replacing the rack and pump.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+
