one last question sagaris, when you put the mounts on the drop hats, do they sit an angle like the stock e30 hats or do they stick straight up

I don't think that they sit on an angle. The spring hats are flat and the strut mount is flat so I am thinking they fit together flat. I did not notice anything weird like that.

Guys, E90 drop hats are FINE. It's the aftermarket hats you should worry about.

well.. its mixed. I haven't experienced any issues with those drop hats version I have a quarter inch of clearance with my new boge mounts but supposedly they were redesigned during the last years of the e30. in any event its best you probably take side pics of your stock mounts with the drop hats for us to compare

If the hats are somewhat oblong/oval/cam shaped and not a perfect circle, then I would grind down the oblong part as well as grinding the sharp edges that can potentially dig into the undercoating or metal. Make the edges dull, paint over it and you are set. It sucks to install all new suspension, then take it apart again because of something like this

Ok I'll definitely check that then. I got just about every suspension part sitting in my basement waiting to be installed right now, I'd hate to have to take stuff apart again a week from now and have to fix it then!

I had the 15mm drop hats installed with the thicker washers and had no problems! i used them with h&r sports, bilstein sports and i like to take corners pretty hard to see what the car can handle and not once had an issue. i just replaced my suspension with coilovers and took the hats off and they had no signs of scratching or wearon them. I guess it depends on what you get from kieth richards weather good hats or oblong ones....
