Don't get all old man grumpy on me. It's late. I was agreeing with you about the racks not being worth repairing. If the stop leak doesn't work, then i'm sure there is a member local to him who is willing to give away a rack. I myself have two laying around.

All i'm saying is that if there was a leak originally, a seal was broken/torn/damaged. I fail to see how a liquid can repair damage to rubber.

I'm not saying it won't work, nor am I stating a time frame of it working.

Oh - sorry - we're splitting hairs at this point.

The seals don't get torn or ripped. More compressed and warn a bit. BTW - how it works is that there is a chemical in it that swells the rubber up. Apparently it works well.

and using something meant for a transmission leak doesn't help either because of the cleaning agents they add to it, so you use power steering stop leak and hope it works.
just calm down I'll take care of it

WRONG, dont put anything marked PS in your BMW. BMW clearly takes ATF and ATF products.

ps stop leak doesn't involve the fluid at all, it targets the seals.

This is a massive failure. The PS leak stop won't work. You have to get the stuff I posted.

Whatever - don't listen to me. It serves me right for trying to be helpful. I've got to stop doing that.

Thanks for reminding me about expansion due to fluid. I was drunk posting last night.

No problem - I'm just being cranky as Philo said.

I had exactly the same leak, coming out of the boot. It would fill up in the boot, and get forced out when I turned.

I kept putting off a rack swap, and started putting in cheaper and cheaper fluid. That's the first problem. There is a huge difference in AFT fluids.

What you want to do is not top off your PS fluid. Eventually the rack will start "moaning" like it's a 2 dollar hooker. That's fine, you can drive a good long time with it - so don't' sweat it.

But before you let it run dry, puck up to bottles of this stuff. Then, fill up, keep topping off. You'll go through one (some will leak) and by the time the second one is in, your leak will have stopped.

I did this with my 250k rack. Hasn't leaked a single drop since.

Sure, I ran the exact same fluid to try to "fix" mine. Worked fine for a few months then it gave up completely. Fluid will never fix broken seals.
