Those of you with Ground Control COs...Question for you.

I plan on ordering GC coilovers soon and was debating whether to shorten my strut housings or not. For those of you that didnt shorten, how did you like the results? Were you happy with the drop? How much am I really losing by not shortening?

Searched but had no luck so I am looking forward to your answers...

This is as low as you can go in front...

    ...with NO modifications.

Cutting/removing the perch will allow about an inch more drop but you will be very close to, if not, sitting on the bumpstops.

You know you need shorter struts if you're going to do that, right? Regular e30 ones won't work.

If you're using Bilsteins, it's easier to just cut down the internal bumpstop.

Getting the complete kit with Koni SAs. Just wanted to get some feedback on the difference in getting full sized inserts and sticking with the full sized strut housing and getting the shorter inserts and shortening the housing.

              Thanks Mark for the visual.

Question...Am I correct in saying that I could go with the 4" shorter insert but only shorten the housing 2 inches and use a 2" spacer to compensate?

without shorten the strut you will have to ride with wheel gap or else your going to bottom out or riding on your bumpstop. with the strut shorten you will have to rise the collar sleeve which output into more travel and more travel mean you will not bottom out or be riding on your bumpstop because the shorten strut is already dropping ride height for you. stock shock are higher than sport shock. see the picture in the link

Yes, this is true. When we do it in-house we section about an inch.

They can be shortened more, but then you're getting into oilpan territory if your going for extreme lowering.

This drop I would like for my e30. Ride quality?

When ordering would I simply specify my intentions and I would be provided with the appropriate spacer? What is the spacer made of exactly?

Yes, if you are going to do the modifications yourself, we supply you with everything you need. There are small variances in insert/housings so you cut your own spacer as needed.

                        The spacer is steel.

This is a car I purchased with a basic kit already installed on stock dampers, which were blown, so ride quality wasn't so great. I installed our complete system in this pic.

The pic in my sig is on the complete system with a 1" section.

Here's the bronzit about half way down on the complete kit...
