Shortening strut housings

When i shorten my front strut housings an inch or two, do i need shorter strut inserts or can i run my crappy kyb gas-a-just shocks with them shortened for a month or two until i can afford konis?

Any input would be much appreciated,

I was under the impression that to shorten your strut housing you had to go with strut inserts from a different car that were also shorter. Personally I would wait until you get everything together before you go to town.

I've heard that as well, i only have access to a welder this weekend and i wont be able to afford struts for a good while so thats why i ask.

how would one fit a regualr e30 shock in a shortened housing?

just shorten them once you have a short shock ready, itll be cheaper in the long run. if you go ix, get billy HDs, they wont pop after 2k miles

Yes stock, look at pictures of ricksloans car, and we put a spacer in the bottom of the housing to raise the strut up. The shock is much shorter allowing more travel. Use the search button there is a thread about it somewhere.

Just cut em now and put the coilover all the way up to let the shock keep some of its travel.
