    E36 Front Coilover Conversion Question

So Im running e36 5 lug on my e30, I bought the GC conversion kit with the correct adjusters and everything for my car. Rears went on perfectly. But now Im doing the fronts. I plan on cutting off the stock perch but Im not sure sure how to mount the threaded sleeve. Theres a little notch have way between the weld bead that holds on the old perch and the top of the strut. I feel like it should sit lower that that and that it wouldnt hold the sleeve there. I can weld a bead too but IDK where to put it. These are bilstien sports btw.

Thanks for the input so far.

You need to call or email me before you cut or weld anything. I have received several emails and phone calls about GC kits on Bilsteins, and I have no idea where the activity is coming from, but you CANNOT just go doing stuff like this.

The Germans do not have a sense of humour, so Bilstein is not kidding with a sticker that says:

    CAUTION
    GAS AND OIL
    UNDER HIGH
    PRESSURE

    TO HELP AVOID
    PERSONAL INJURY
    DUE TO EXPLOSION
    DO NOT APPLY
    HEAT OR FIRE

The GC kit for Bilsteins will already have the appropriate spring included. If the car is not going low enough, it is a problem with the Bilstein internal bumpstop, NOT the spring perch.

If you see any forum where someone is discussing this, please tell them to email me before they do anything. There has been such a flurry of "how do I cut my Bilstein perch", that somebody must be posting somewhere.

Ended up just cutting off the perch around the weld bead with a grinder, just wanted to clean it up and make more roo for bigger tires if need be. One of the threded sleeves just sits a little more snug and im gonna have to kinda tap it down onto the strut and thats what was throwing me off, thanks for the safety adivice, but don worry i wasnt just gonna cut the strut in half or heat it to a million degrees with out know what would happen.
