    Removing power steering entirely

When I got my car 3 months ago the PO said that he "just forgot to put PS fluid in." When I finally put it in, it leaked straight through my steering rack and no place else. I've driven like this since then and I love the feel of no PS, yet I still have the entire setup. I don't know how to actually remove everything though. Would I just unbolt the 19mm bolt holding the hose from the pump to the rack, and the 19mm bolt from the reservoir to the pump? Thanks

yep. just pull the whole system, reservoir, pump, and leave the rack. It's generally wise to cap the in and out ports on the steering rack itself to prevent residue build up inside the rack.

I had the same problem. $54 later I have an e36 rack and spacers to install it.(e30 rack would have been even cheaper) Fixing problems right the first time is often the easiest way in the end.

No PS on my lowered eta. It felt so funny to drive my new ix WITH PS.

I just pulled the whole system on the eta.

I never actually had a problem with it really. People who drive my car hate it but it's natural to me. Thanks man

you can cancel your gym membership......

              benefits?......

              lose some wt up frt....

some say increased steering feel at speed.

              no more leaks.

              no more parasitic draw...increased hp.
I love sitting down and just driving!

Kinda this. It won't be that dramatic of a difference in difficult to move the steering wheel..I mean the E30 is pretty light to begin with and if you're not a pus you shouldn't really complain about it
                Definite increased steering feel
the increased HP is very minute.. you'll feel more from the "butt dyno" from the removed weight than the parasitic draw

In a racing Division like mine, We are dealing with cars with little HP (mine was at 101, the competition is at 120, but with 500lbs more weight)
Removing the Powersteering pump, going from a clutch fan to an electric fan, even if that only gives 5HP (I think it might be closer to 7 or so), that is a 5% increase in HP
its just like weight, one or two here, opne or two there, it all adds up in the end!

And even at parking lot speeds if your not a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles face it's not hard to steer

In a racing class if the rules allow it is totally different than not repairing a street vehicle b/c of lazy/cheapness. After watching a member ask how to "delete" their rear brakes b/c they didn't want to fix them I realized some have taken a sad new approach to modification and could possibly use a little more guidance.
