    Need some GC help!

I brought my strut housings to a machine shop to get them shortened & re-threaded. After a week, they called me yesterday and told me they couldn't do it. Anyone out there whose done this on they're own? How did you do it? what tools did you use?

Chop saw with a metal blade, tape measure, and a welder.

You could also use a cutoff wheel, micrometer, and a welder.

And there's the ever popular, sawzall, ruler, and a welder.

Simply cut into 3 pieces, remove the middle bit, and weld the two outer bits that are left back together.

I recommend welding magnets to align the tube.

      But yeah, it's very easy.

What reasons did they give you? Should be pretty straight forward, I think the hardest part is pulling the strut out of the car.

Done correctly, the housings do not need to be re-threaded.
