Rear sway bar bushing tab ripped. Fixes?

    Rear sway bar bushing tab ripped. Fixes?

    Couldn't find this answer via searching.

    My Driver's side rear sway bar bushing tab ripped (bolt ripped vertically straight down, turning the hole into a slot)

    The answer to reinforcing the tabs (IE or AKG reinforcements) is clear, but my question is how to repair the tab. Do I have to get it welded or can I just put a reinforcement plate on the backside?

      If you have larger than stock sways, you will need to weld in reinforcements on the sway link pickup points. I favor the reinforcements like those sold by Turner.
      The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        this is where the bushing meets the chassis, not on the links/trailing arms, to be clear.

        bar size is larger than stock, hence the ripped tab.

          My tab ripped off completely, and was still attached to the end link, I cleaned it up and welded it back in place, then welded on reinforcement plates from Vac. The Vac plates are an L shape thus creating a gusset, which should make the tabs considerably stronger. I have had no problems since with ie 22mm rear bar.

          Edit: Sorry just realized you were talking about the chassis mount. Either way if you don't have reinforcement on your trailing arms do that as well because they will fail with a bigger bar.

            Ahh, the OE chassis mount's can't take the stress of a larger sway. For that you need subframe bushing mounts like those that are furnished with an IE or ST sway bar. They have additional fasteners that transfer loads to the trunk floor.

              right, as i mentioned in the first post. just wondering if welding the ripped tab back together is neccessary once the larger (with additional attachment points) mounts are installed.

                Yes, definitely weld the chassis mount back in place, reinforce it if you can't get it back together clean. The upgraded mounts are designed to work with the factory mount, not just on their own.
