    GC Conversion Kit

So I am looking into getting the GC conversion kit for my car and I have been doing as much research as possible. It's pretty widely known that there are issues with the struts bottoming out without having the modified konis. My question is wouldn't this also be an issue with regular lowering springs? Or is it just an issue with the conversion kit because you get more low? I am kind of a noob when it comes to suspension so if the answer is obvious forgive me. Also i have not seen anyone running this kit with stock shocks and struts though it says it is compatible with them. Would this be a bad idea or would the ride quality suck? The car will only see street use and the reason I want the coilover conversion is for the adjustability. I cant stand when the front sits higher than the rear. Thanks for all your help!

I have the conversion kit, but i shorten the strut my self and got the shorter konis. i am as low as the kit will allow me, and i have never bottomed out, even with the ruff roads here in ca.

With the stock struts? Or would this be true with all but the shortened konis?

Must be because you have the shortened konis.

Thanks for the input but this pertains to none of my questions.

yes with shorten strut you can go so low the oil pan is touching the ground and it still won't bottom out. any other without shorten strut will bottom out if it is a finger gap between the fender and tire.

                  coilovers

y do folkx get sooo confused w/ this?...

coilovers in and of themselves will not increase bottoming out at all!..its only a very slammed lowering that causes this. U run out of shock travel.

You can run stock shox and housings!!!.....but you cannot go very low...maybe 1 to 1.5 inches of drop before you have issues. But y use stock shox and housings if u r going coilovers?....makes no sense. But yes...you can run stock stuff , just try 2 pick a correct spring rate and length. But really...it is not a good combo....y do it?

Even a very low aftermarket oe style spring will cause bottoming if yur shocks are not appropriate.

To go really really low and not bottom?....short konis...cut housings..and coilovers. But you can very low w/ non cut housings and not have bottoming issues.

make sense?..you may need to educate yourself more about set ups......and some theory.

U want a nice stance/rake?....go HR race...billie sports...and use a thicker rear spring pad...done. It will out handle most anything around......sit well...not bottom......set it and forget it.

I'm within finger gap distance between tire and fender and I have never bottomed out with gc/bilstein sports.

Also, With the conversion kit, you can use stock shocks or bilsteins. However, since they are not set up for the spring rate you are going to run on a conversion kit, they will wear out fairly easily. Hell, if youre only streeting it you might be alright. But in order to go low, you need to cut the strut housing down and weld on the get this....no-weld d-ring that is included in the kit. Yeah, that didnt make sense to me either. Anyway, you might be alright with maybe bilsteins from another kit. But stock shocks maybe not since they are probably already pretty warn out. Here is a guy who had the conversion kit and all he did was shorten the struts in order to go lower. Seems to me it worked out fine for him.
