    AST 4100's...

Ok so I recently put in AST 4100's in the front (doing rears later) but I have this horrible sound coming from the front everytime I hit inconsistencies in the road like bumps or sudden elevation changes... It sounds like a "thud" rather than a "clink"... Thats the only way I can describe it.

I'm not sure what it can be... Before putting in the coilovers, everything was fine, control arms/bushings...

Assuming I put in the coilovers the right way, meaning tightening up everything I needed to... could it be a bad bearing? because my friend kept insisting that it could be the bearing. I bought struts from another member here and had them send it to Jack at Elephant Motorsports to weld the fronts for me. I didn't bother to check the bearings on the struts when the coilovers came in and just put the coilovers on the car.

    Any inputs?

I had what I think was the same sound and it had to do with the collar that holds the shock down, wasn't tight enough. This was party due to where the tubes were welded, and the welds prevented the collars from fully tightening.

did you check your struts for free play when you tightened down the collar (what would be the glad nut on a normal strut)? When I pre-assembled mine I had a very slight amount of play (less than an 1/8"), basically even though I sectioned out the 1" of strut tube as required, the strut tube was still slightly too long and the strut itself could move in the housing. My remedy was to drop 1 or 2 fender washers in the bottom of the strut tube to take up the slack. If this is the case for you I'd take care of that as soon as possible, I don't think that the strut collar was designed to take that kind of constant impact and you don't want it punching through...

The other possible issue could be the spherical on the camber plates themselves, they can make some noise depending on the model...
