    new noises

so my car has developed two new sounds that are comeing from the front passenger side wheel. the most obvious is a metal on metal sound coming from the wheel when ever it spins, it sounds like the break may be pressing on the break pad, but all the time the only thing is there isnt enough resistence to noticly slow the car down.

the other is a clunking noise that comes from the suspension when ever the car hits a large bum fast. when i get out of the car and try to push down on the side of the car i can not notice it. but when i hit a bumb going fast i defenitly do.

    plz help

the "bump noise" could be your shock mounts, my buddies car did the same thing until he had the nuts tightened.
inspect suspension bushings when you are under the car and ensure they are still good (no cracks, bulges, discoloration)
the metal on metal could potentially be the hub/wheel bearing combo OR it could be the pad rubbing on the rotor.
    Suggestion:
Pop hood, check shock mounts for cracking and splitting, ensure bolts are torqued correctly.
Shake the suspect wheel violently back and forth to check for play ( if there is play, its your bearings)
Loosen front two wheels, jack car, remove wheels, spin rotors with a gloved hand and listen to see if one grinds MORE than the other.

The bump noise could, as mentioned above, be shock mounts, or it could be sway bar links/bushings.

The scaping noise could be a dragging brake pad, the backing contacting the rotor, a stone caught between the rotor an backing plate, or a bad wheel bearing. An inspection of that wheel with the front end up in the air should reveal the cause of the noise.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Driving slowly, hit the brakes slightly and immediately release. Bump noise? Boom, upper shock mounts.

          oh and its a ix

but i checked the shock mounts and they seem to be in good shape and i tried the short stop method so i guess i can cross that out but i didnt find any thing that would cause is the right inner tierod made a small clunking noise when i smacked it hard enough

i was checking the wheels and with both of them up and spinning i didnt hear the noise to loud but it would make sense that i could have a rock in the pad because i drive on dirt roads alot but i did crab the wheel at 9 and 3 and there seemed to be alot of play so is that the bearings

if it is the bearings how quick should i do that because i am driving across the country soon (as in 2 days) and do not have a ton of free time but i do have some nice lights and can always pull a all nighter

Also, that "clunking" noise can very well be the front strut gland nut being loose and creating slack where there shouldn't be slack. The gland nut is the part that actually screws into the strut housing. I had this problem and a shop in So Cal by the name of Castro's Customs literally knew exactly what it was after a quick test drive and fixed it in about 30 seconds.

            Hope this helps.
