    the front coils are stiffer than the rear correct? with the engine being up front i would think they had a stiffer rate.

    Softer. Front seat passengers sit fairly centered in the car which gives equal loading on both axles. Rear seat passengers, trunk cargo, and fuel tank weigh heavily on the rear axle along with weight transfer during acceleration.



    The spring rate for the front springs is adequate for the weight of the engine, the rear is just stiffer to accomodate for cargo and weight transfer.
