Clank that goes away when braking.

I just replaced my stock springs with H&R sports and now there is a clanking noise that comes from the front left I believe. It goes away when braking so I thought it might be something that has to do with the brakes but after checking everything out several times I can find nothing that appears to be loose or broken at all. I have checked all of the ball joints and the nut that holds the shock in place and I cant find anything at all that could be causing the noise. I know that my shocks are completely shot but that doesn't really explain why the noise would go away when braking. Any thoughts?

A comon source of noise from a front strut after disassembly is improper asswmbly of the strut. The position and presence of the washer below the strut mount is critical.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
