    Koni Problems

Ok, so I got my new Koni's and camber plates from GC thursday(a day early I might add) and yesterday got them put on. After driving around, something felt and sounded off. I got home and wanted to check some things out. Pushing down on the front, they were much softer than my buddies billy sports! So now im curious, I pulled the wheel off and found this:

The piece that's meant to hold the shock in place is much too large and is causing the shock to buckle inside the strut housing(causing the noise and possibly why it feels crap?)

Any suggestions? Dont really know what to do?

You need to call GC? Were your housings shortened? I always thought you need a special collar for that, but idk.

            That's the correct Gland nut.
It is specifially made for Koni inserts and has an inner profile that matches the top of the Koni body.

Can you physically see or feel the insert moving inside the housing?

Yes I can, when pushing the fender down you hear and feel a clunk, before the shock actually starts to dampen. Any ideas? Instillation error?

                Is the gland nut tight?

The only other thing would be the top strut nut.

I just noticed you have unmodified housings and short Konis??

Yes they're getting cut and welded this week. The gland nut is as tightened down as it will go, but its not anywhere near to touching the top of the shock. Isn't the purpose of the gland nut to keep the shock shaft from having any play? I just feel like if it has to swing 5mm into the gland nut before its starts damping, it could eventually damage the shock.

So you installed shortened Koni's in an unmodified strut tube. Kind of a no brainer correct?

But why would that effect the fact that the gland nut doesn't fit snug around the shock shaft? All modifying the strut tube does is lower the spring mounting point, and lower the car...

The gland nut is not supposed to fit tight on the shaft.

The seals are in the cartridge. All the gland nut does is contain the cartridge in the housing.

So the movement(however sketchy it feels) will not damage the shock?

It may and will likely damage it since the shock insert is bouncing around in a larger tube. That is why you are supposed to shorten them.

I thought you only cut the spring perch off? If you cut the actual tube, what does the piece screw into?
