    Is my strut mount bad???

My e30 has had the whole front end suspension rebuilt with the exception of the struts and mounts(by rebuilt I mean the complete control arms were replaced with new ball joints and bushings). Methinks it's the strut mount on the right side that's bad as it gives off a slight popping/knocking sound when coming to a stop and that side just feels a bit sloppy when going over bumps.

if it is the strut mounts, do I need a strut compressor to acess the mounts (like what is common on most cars these days)

    thanks in advance

Try driving slowly and hit/let go of the brakes real quick, you might be able to feel it pop.
Yea, you'll need a compressor to replace 'em.

A spring compressor is not needed on most lowering springs
