I can extend it by hand and as it sits against the wall, it bleeds down slowly, over about 15 seconds.

Yes it's dead. It almost costs the same to rebuild it as buying a new one. Plus you get a warranty with the new one. I have some blown rears I can send you so you have a matching set. :)-tim
