    GC Kit?

Been doing research on coilovers for my early model e30. From what I've read on the early models you have to cut, lower and reweld your spring perches. Is that correct? Also how is the Ground Control Kit. Honestly I'm looking to pretty much sit my bimmer on its nuts. Basically what I want to know is what kind of spring rate should I get both front and rear and what can I do to get maximum lowness :-). And no Im not fucking cutting, heating or removing springs.....dicks.

This is how it sits with H&R Race Springs

4" 700lb rear springs no collars
front GC kit with 600lb springs and shortened housing

spring rates are really up to you though

if you did the research then all of that stuff would be answered though

Spring perches on the front housings should be cut on early or late models to properly install and fully being able to utilize coilover kit. The lower you go, the higher the spring rates should be...shocks should be re-valved/shortened to handle it as well.

The perches need to be relocated in the front?

Yup, and buy the 1,500 kit if you really want to go low. They will do all the fabbing and welding if you cannot. Re-valved is the way to go on the struts. I have three of their setups on my two e30s and the other on my brother's slammed ass vert.

I will give them a call monday, just wanting to get a little bit of info first before I can call them.

Ahh I see.. I read another thread. I see you cut the bottom perch off and reweld the perch that GC supplies you. But how much lower do you weld it from the stock location? And the front strut tubes..are those welded onto the knuckles?

I think you're making this more complicated than it really is. If you do it right, only takes a couple hours to install with no welder. Just take your wheel off and look.

here is a picture of the front setup of my car:

Yes, but BE CAREFUL, because you only need to grind down a little bit. There is a little space in between the spring perch and the strut tube. You only want to go that far all the way around.

Ok i got you..and thats what allows you to lower the adjuster even more by grinding that down right?

what shocks are you going with? i hope you know that if you want to slamm it properly you HAVE to cut and weld the strut housing not just grind down the perch. Also if you are planning on adjusting it all the way down you want to be on shortened koni's because bilsteins are gonna blow.

                        best option is to
#1 - cut strut housing/re-weld according to gc (it tells you on the kit how much to cut) and go with legit short body koni's or short body race koni's

#2 - just buy the kit

the reason i say this is because i have been shotgun at the track in both a properly set-up gc kit (with the shortened housing and short body koni's) and kit that was just sitting on a ground down stock perch with normal length koni's. And there is a huge difference, enough that my friend eventually went with the proper shocks and proper strut modifications.

Yes i plan on going with the short body konis. And i got a buddy who professionally welds. I knew you had to cut and reweld something to go low but wasnt quite sure. I wish i had a picture to show me what needs cut and rewelded. I know once i take the wheel off and go at ill understad but before i get into it i want to pretty much know what i got to do.

well if you buy the kit it will tell you where to weld and exactly how much you want to lower the strut. It even tells you to cut the bump stop in half (my friends didnt but if you want to slam your e30 you probably should)

Ahhh ok. It says its $399 for thr conversion kit. Now that includes whatever shocks you pick as well. And spring rates that ive found a couple guys like are 575 fronts and 650 rears.
