Why E30 steering feels so light compared to E36?

The steering rack in the E30 is 4.1 turns lock to lock, which means that the steering wheel does less work per wheel movement than an e36 rack. A common upgrade is the E30->E36/E46 steering rack which will offer more solid steering wheel feel.

Alternatively, if your car has working power steering and just want more weight, take the power steering belt off the front, it'll continue to circulate but you won't get that over-boosted feel (lightness)

same fitment, might need to swap the lollipops for the E36 ones like if you had a Z3 rack, not sure on LTL but everything I've read suggests it's the same as the 3 turn LTL E36 racks.
