Installing sway bar rubber grommets

Need help with my new sway bar grommets. I have the bar all lined up, grommets on the bar. Prior to mounting the grommets on the bar, i pressed them into the shackle. I then tried to see if they would fit with out the bar first and found they were really tight. I also removed the rear front assy bolt for more room. I also tried to turn the grommet to position it to the slot, it seemed like there was to much rubber to make it turn.
Any way I know there is someone here that can help.

hahahahaha.

I just did this Yesterday, and it was a whore. First, make sure ALL of the old crusty rust is cleaned out of the old brackets. I couldn't get mine halfway on before I cleaned them, afterwards they slid 95% of the way on by hand(next time I will buy new brackets). Second, I used some silicone(rubber-friendly) to make the bracket slide on a bit easier.

I naturally put the lip into the subframe first, then using a combination of a 12" waterpump pliers(to squish the bracket onto the rubber and bring it closer to the subframe to allow me to start the bolt/nut) and a set of needlenose vice-grips to hold it in position while starting said nut and bolt.
You may have to tap it with a hammer from the backside to get the tab to fully seat in the subframe....good luck.

I just did this not too long ago, and I couldn't believe how much of a PITA it was. I ended up using a floor jack to mash the bracket against the subframe enough to get the bolt through the holes.

I tried a C- Clamp, but I'm thinking a bottle jack might work. It seems to me you need to place the grommet in the slot and then turn it with upward pressure. Ya your right PITA

I did this about a month ago. Got the bracket lined up in the slot and force it into place with a jack. I couldn't get them into place without the jack.

OK Jack is the answer, I will try that method today and let you know the results.

is this the rear sway or front??

cause i had trouble getting my rear 19mm sway to fit also..i ended up sanding down the back of the bushing so the bracket would bolt down. thats what the suspension techniques instructions said might happen..

in the pic you can kinda tell the difference.the one on the right was sanded down more flush with the new bracket

SILICONE AND PRESSURE IS THE ANSWER. i ALSO USED A PLASTIC TIE TO HOLD THE GROMMET FROM POPPING OUT. MADE IT A LOT EASIER. Anyway its done and history.
