    bilsteins question

at the local u pull they have an 87 325e with bilstein hd's and performance springs( can't remember the spring maker h& r ? maybe.. ). the springs aren't good the outer plastic casing is cracked and starting to rust out. but the rear shocks look to be in good shape.would it be worth it to pull them and use my stock springs. i like a firm ride and i like the stock ride height. and since they only want 5$ a shock, and i have a $ 30 credit with them and i'm pretty poor atm. Well really poor

I'd grab them and the springs. All springs will rust through the powder coat finish in a snowy climate. A little surface rust will not effect the performance of the spring. If its too low you can always shim them with extra spring pads.
