If your going to use a bilstein then get an ix hd inserts. They will fit with less work and are valved for the e30. The purpose of the KYB is a cheaper alternative to the Koni adjustable or a cheaper alternative to the ix inserts.

As you can see they are nearly 2" shorter in then the Bilsteins and most of that is in the body and not the shaft. With my car tucking tire on 15" wheels on a high arch car i still have a little more then 2" of travel left which should make these next to impossible to bottom out.

These were on your coilovers correct?

Do you have any pics of the front?

Its a sealed bearing. It might be an alternator bearing or could be a race cars clutch pilot bearing. Doesnt matter, it fits the strut mounts and allows you to use the KYB MR2 strut inserts.

Alternator supports maybe 10lbs. Strut bearing supports several thousand pounds of force when you hit a pot hole. I'd check with the manufactures specs on those. It would suck to have your strut push through your bearing at 80mph because it was designed for a 100lb max load.

what are you folks doing for a spacer for the kyb agx front struts?
I don't have anybody near me (including lowes, home depot, etc) that sell pipe stock or spacers, so I have to order online.

I asked einstein by email, but he never got back to me with these measurements you need to find out what spacer to run:
                - inner strut diameter
                - length of spacer needed
                - diameter of agx strut
                - diameter of the little nub on the bottom of the agx strut

I would just cut off the bottoms of your old factory inserts and use them as spacers.

The MR2 gland nuts have the same thread pitch as the Bilsteins but the are a couple thousandths of a inch smaller. The Bilstein measured in at 1.8815" and the MR2 was 1.8795". I don't think its enough to make a difference but i'm going to wrap it in teflon tape just to be on the side of caution. The strut body was also a bit narrower as the Bilstein measured in at 45.35mm and the KYB was 43.65mm. The gland nut centers it so I don't believe it will be a problem. I plan on making a sleeve for the bottom to center it as well. I'm sure its overkill because the g60 inserts are narrower as well and people just wrap them in hockey tape. Another interesting comparison is even though KYB is an inch longer then the Bilstein they are the same length when they are compressed. This is great for people who don't want to be slammed but want a thrifty alternative to Koni sports.

So in total, what is needed to run the MR2 Rears in the front?

                    I am guessing these bearings

would anyone have the lengths of the e30 rear shock vs camaro?

                        thanks

Geees! I got the camaro shock in the other day and didnt get the AGX; I just got the Gas-a-just OEM type chock and MAN! They are stiff! Much stiffer than the front bilstein IX shocks I compared them to. And using a home depot brass fitting sized 3/8 wide by 1.5 inches was perfect to fit in the bushing to install on the t-arm.

Thanks so much for this thread making me want to get new rear shocks :)

Went to the BMW specialist that has done a bit of work on my fathers and my racecars, told him that i wanted to get some camaro rears.... he walks over to a box and hands me:

Advance Design 2 way adjustable rear shocks (from a GC setup) Rebuilt 3/3/2011 and not used since...

Said he also has the fronts in the workshop somewhere (also rebuilt 3/3/2011) and that I can have them when he finds them.

                                best part? they were free :) :) :) :)
