    Broken lower rear shock mount.

The lower right Rear Shock mount where the shock mounts to snaps off on my 86' 325. Can this be welded or do I have to replace the whole thing?

Just replace the trailing arm. You can get them cheap (under $100). The last thing you want is it failing doing 70 mph

Was it just the bolt that snapped? If so, you could drill it out and use a heli-coil.

It's that plate that the shock mounts to.

Terry, Is this a DIY kind a job, or do I need a special tools to replace it?
i'm somewhat mechanically incline with just the basic tools.

Just for clarifacation, is it where the top of the shock mounts or the bottom?

Since he says the lower shock mount in the rear and asked about it being welded back, I would believe its trailing arm where the bolt threads in. That would probably mean he needs to find a used trailing arm from a parts car or something and have that put on. OR see how much a brand new one costs.

The trailing arm is a bolt on part. difficulty of 3 on a 10 scale. Search the archives.

Toughest part would be the wheel bearing/axle shaft. If you can find a used one with the half shaft, I agree its a 3/10. Otherwise, it could be a little harder.

Will, that is exactly what I'm trying to relate.
Thanks for all the info guys. Now I know what I'm dealing with.
I'm sure I wont have a problem finding one from my local junkyard.

How did that break? Did you hit something? Track time? Details?
