KYB Front Strut Installation Woes

Hey Guys,

I'm working on this installation today (KYB Excel-G 364021), and I have a quick question as regards the threaded collar that comes with these struts. Were you guys able to tighten it down until the octagonal collar was flush to the strut housing? I'm not sure if I've tightened it as far down as I'm supposed to, or if I just need more force/leverage. I'm worried it's gotten so hard to continue tightening because I'm up against the shock tube, and shouldn't keep tightening. But then, I've just been using channel locks and no vise (for now).

Even stock collars are not tight to the max. There is a gap between the strut the nut.

The P.O. (or somebody before him) left the old stock collars unscrewed (!), or else they worked themselves loose, so I couldn't see how they were supposed to look. The old struts literally slipped free from the housings - nothing was holding them in but gravity!

tighten until it gets tight. You may well have a gap at the top between the strut collar and the tube. I think I have about a 4-5mm gap between the two
