KYB's or Tokico's???

My '88 325is DD is a monster truck right now! Its on stock suspension. I want to lower it for looks but on something reliable. I was just gonna do it with springs but figured it's 23+ year old suspension shocks might blow. Might as well spend the lil extra cash and get both shocks and springs. I am debating over KYB's & Tokico blues. Anybody try either out before or have any advice as to which you recommend or another similar solution?

Bilstein/H&R is a proven combo.

I bought my 318is with Bilsteins and Tokico lowering springs. Rides fine and handles pretty damn well. (I also have an autoX prepped e30 with AST coilovers ... )

If you refuse to get bilsteins (worth it) get the KYBs. They'll blow, but not nearly as fast as POS tokicos.

Whether you are doing this for just looks or performance it makes no sense not to do it right. The sweet taste of a low cost will be forgotten long before the bitter taste of a bad choice is obvious. If you lower the car you need shocks that have travel and damping characteristics appropriate to the springs used. And the springs need to be stiff enough for the shorter length, which will make for greater NVH. H&R Sport springs are good for a moderate drop and H&R Race springs will give more drop. Either are best coupled with Bilstein Sport or Koni SA shocks.

This is what I was implying when I said billie/H&r is a proven combo.

Whatever you spend on the tokicos or kybs is going to be money pist away ... Stopgap winds up costing more.

I am running KYB's with H&R OE springs on my 318is...Its been 4 months or so with no issues. Rides very well for a DD - not too stiff.

Id say go with the bilsteins if your going to lower the car much...H&R OE's are only about an inch drop.

Tokicos are crap. They ride like a dream for about 4 weeks, then they take a dump. I picked mine up for $75 NEW iirc. So unless you can source them for cheap like I did, I wouldnt even bother.
